Home & Work Space!

Today I wanted to write about home and work space because sometimes (if we’re lucky) it can be the same thing. It is extremely important to me to have an organized workspace otherwise I can’t concentrate. Sean and I moved into our first apartment in February of this year and we are STILL getting everything put up. It’s okay though because we are firm believers in quality over quantity. We could easily fill our apartment up with cheap furniture and decor but we would rather wait and slowly fill it up with things we genuinely love. When I work from home, I am usually working on the couch or our island in the kitchen. Something as simple as having the blanket folded can keep me from getting distracted by messy thoughts. I am prone to OCD and anxiety so these little things can actually effect me if I don’t take care of them before doing something as important as my work. Since living on my own I have discovered that busy patterns can make my anxiety flare up from time to time. So, a lot of things in the apartment are solid, neutral toned. Sean is not a big fan of that but it helps me feel more at peace. The busiest pattern we have going on currently is the rug which I consider an accent piece. As long as the busy pattern is minimal and kept to a confined space it doesn’t bother me and I can actually appreciate it. It’s these important things we learn about ourselves that really help us find and build our “happy place” per se. Since living in this apartment I feel less anxious and frustrated. Overall, I am happier because I have been able to eliminate factors that take away from my happiness or ability to concentrate. It sounds silly, but these little things really make a difference. Sean and I absolutely love our apartment and are having fun building it up and making it our own. It is small a cozy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Everyday I try to remind myself how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful place. I have learned that sometimes less is more and minimalism is the way to go. Buy what you absolutely love and leave all the junk behind. No one needs a bunch of “stuff”. When you declutter your living space, you declutter you mind, and with a clear mind, you can focus on what truly matters.
